An article published in the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper by Israeli investigative journalist Ronen Bergman confirmed that the documents revealed by the German newspaper Bild and the British newspaper The Jewish Chronicle were distorted and contained lies intended to serve Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s views that the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) was behind the disruption of the prisoner deal.
Manipulation in the service of Netanyahu
Bergman, a military and security expert who also writes in the American New York Times, citing sources in the Israeli army, said that an examination of the document published in Bild showed that it was “not a document issued by Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, or taken from his private computer.” interested in reaching an agreement, has no origin in the document!
He added: “This document was written by the military intelligence of the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades (and not by Sinwar), but it is a document of little importance, and certainly not Sinwar’s orders, although it represents a moderate point of view.”
A senior source linked to what the newspaper describes as a POW network and familiar with the details of the negotiations with Hamas regarding the Gaza detainee return deal was also quoted as saying: “This document is fabricated and fabricated. Its source and content have been manipulated, and it is part of a particularly malicious, evil and satanic campaign led by Yes, for narrow and selfish political considerations,” referring to Netanyahu’s marketing of the two newspapers’ allegations that Hamas is not interested in reaching an agreement, and that Sinwar is about to smuggle “hostages” to Iran!
He confirmed that the prisoners’ families contacted the Interior Ministry’s Prisoners of War department to verify the matter, and were informed that “this fear is based on null facts and pure lies.”
Investigations conducted by the Intelligence Complex were also cited, describing the falsification of secret documents as “Operation Blue Influence, i.e. a deceptive operation illegally carried out by Israeli officials against the Israeli public, using false secret information.”
He also revealed that the Jewish Chronicle had presented a series of other false publications written by one of their correspondents (Elon Perry) in order to serve Netanyahu, such as claiming that there were only “20 kidnappers” left alive and that they were handcuffed next to Sinwar, and there was no chance of their release, it was also claimed that Mossad agents, dressed in green, were hiding behind trees around the house where former Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, assassinated in Tehran, resided.
Israeli writer and journalist Amir Shwan reported that the real name of the writer in this newspaper is not Alon Perry, but Eli Yifrach, and that he was not, as his biography claims, a fighter in the Entebbe operation (rescuing Israeli hostages who were kidnapped by guerrillas in 1976), nor a university professor or a secret officer and journalist for 25 years; Just an ordinary soldier!
In the case of the Bild newspaper, Bergman said: “One should not suspect that the deputy editor-in-chief of the most widely circulated newspaper in Germany and the most important member of the influential media group, Axel Springer, knew that he was part of a media group. “And there are no instructions on how to handle the negotiations, and it is not Hamas’ decision not to reach an agreement.”
A document that expresses flexibility
Bergman discussed the veracity of the document, which he said was drafted by military intelligence affiliated with Hamas’ military wing, which is one of three intelligence organizations affiliated with Hamas, as part of recommendations on how to deal with the proposal presented by the three Hamas mediators. The three Hamas mediators managed to reach an agreement on April 8, but Hamas leaders did not accept what was stated in it, he said.
He added: “Certainly, the opinions and recommendations presented therein do not reflect a reluctance to reach an agreement, quite the contrary. They describe how Hamas can maximize the benefits it can gain from such an agreement, how it can achieve this, and what Israel can or cannot obtain.” You understand, as well as how it will be possible to pressure Israel to accept the agreement.
The introduction to the document was quoted as saying: “We have accepted the final proposal of the mediators, which consists of 3 parts and addresses (the basic principles of an agreement between the Israeli and Palestinian sides in Gaza for the exchange of prisoners and the return to continued calm), and we believe that there are many factors that must be taken into account when making a decision.” And study its negative and positive effects… It is necessary to show flexibility so that Hamas does not bear the responsibility for its failure to reach an agreement.”
“We believe that some of the fundamental provisions of the agreement can be improved, even if the negotiations continue for a longer period,” he also quoted in the text. “On the other hand, it includes the possibility of abandoning what has been planned for several months, the main stumbling block between the two sides,” he said.
He concluded by saying that these falsified documents “raise serious reflections on what has been published in the Israeli media throughout this war.”
