Unifil demands an investigation after burning a vehicle in Beirut Nouvelles


The United Nations Provisional Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) called on the Lebanese authorities to carry out an immediate investigation after one of its officers was injured on Friday in one of its vehicles on a road leading to Beirut Airport .

The burning of the vehicle occurred at a time when dozens of Hezbollah supporters blocked the road to Beirut International Airport for the second consecutive night, to protest the lack of granting Lebanese authorities to authorize an Iranian plane to land in Beirut Thursday.

Dozens of Hezbollah supporters cut the entrance to Beirut airport and the international road leading to burning tires.

“A convoy of the peacekeeping forces of Unifil this evening was subjected to a violent attack while she was heading for Beirut’s airport on her country but the end of her mission.”

Unifil called – in his declaration: “The Lebanese authorities to conduct a complete and immediate investigation, and work to present all those responsible for this attack on justice”, noting that “such attacks against the soldiers of peace are a violation obvious of international law and can constitute war crimes. “

“This attack sparked our shock, because it is a terrible attack on peacekeeping forces which endeavor to restore security and stability in southern Lebanon for a difficult period,” continued The strength of the United Nations in Lebanon.

The United Nations Special Coordinator in Lebanon described Jenin Hennis Blaskart as “unacceptable”.

“Such a violent attack threatens the security of United Nations personnel employees who make continuous efforts to maintain stability in Lebanon, and they often face great dangers during their work,” said a press release on the platform X.

Work with firmness

For his part, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam strongly condemned the attack, while the Lebanese army undertook to work “firmly to prevent any damage to civil peace and the arrest of those who violate security” .

A later declaration of the army said that the interim army commander, Major-General Hassan Odeh, had contacted the commander of the United Nations force in Lebanon and “confirmed that the army refuses any exposure to Unifil and will work to stop citizens who have attacked its elements and their market to justice.

On Thursday, the Lebanese media reported that the Lebanese civil aviation authorities had not granted an authorization to an Iranian passenger plane to land at Rafic Hariri airport, which led to the failure of the Plane to take off from Tehran International Airport.

It should be noted that on January 3, the authorities of Beirut Airport underwent an Iranian plane with a diplomatic delegation for a precise inspection, which angry the supporters of Hezbollah, while dozens of them have organized a sit-in near Rafic Hariri airport to protest against this measure.
