Two dead, eight injured in regime forces’ shelling in Idlib countryside | news


Two people were killed and eight others injured following the shelling by Syrian regime forces on Friday of a town in the Idlib countryside in northwestern Syria.

The Syrian Civil Defense in the opposition areas of the north of the country, known as the “White Helmets,” reported that regime forces launched artillery attacks on the town of Taftanaz, east of Idlib, targeting civilian homes, causing civilian casualties. They also targeted a car in the city of Dara Gaza, west of Aleppo, with a guided missile.

It was reported that among the injured in Taftanaz were six children, one of whom was in critical condition, and three women, including a woman and five of her children, suffering injuries of varying severity.

She added that the injured were transferred to a nearby hospital in the area.

The Civil Defense confirmed that since the beginning of this year until September 15, its teams responded to more than 650 attacks by the regime forces and Russia, as well as areas under the joint control of the regime forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces. of which 54 people were killed, including 15 children and 6 women, and 245 people were injured, including 99 children and 29 women.

In September 2018, Turkey and Russia reached an additional memorandum of understanding to strengthen the ceasefire in Idlib, which had been included in the agreement on de-escalation zones at the Astana meetings in 2017, but the Syrian regime intensified its attacks on the region in 2019.

On May 5, 2020, Turkey and Russia reached a new ceasefire agreement in Idlib, but regime forces and its supporters violate it from time to time.
