US President-elect Donald Trump announced yesterday Saturday that he had chosen Charles Kushner, the father of his son-in-law and former advisor Jared Kushner, to the post of US ambassador to France.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump described Kushner Sr. as a “pioneering” and “wonderful” businessman, and said he would be sent to Paris to “strengthen the partnership between the United States and France, our oldest ally and one of our strongest allies.
Charles Kushner spent a year in federal prison for tax fraud and was pardoned by Trump at the end of his first presidential term. His son Jared Kushner is the husband of Ivanka Trump, the president’s eldest daughter.
Since his election to the presidency over Kamala Harris on November 5, Trump has announced the names of the figures he has chosen to fill positions in his administration, many of which are controversial.
Trump chose environmental activist Robert F. Kennedy Jr., known for his skepticism about the effectiveness of vaccines, to take over the health portfolio.
Platform X owner Tesla and SpaceX have also chosen billionaire Elon Musk to lead an audit of public spending with the aim of reducing it, alongside businessman Vivek Ramaswamy.
He chose Pete Hegseth, a Fox News anchor accused of sexual assault in 2017, to serve as defense secretary, but no charges have been filed against him.
He also initially chose Matt Gaetz, a congressman who was accused of paying a 17-year-old girl to have sex with him years ago. But he then withdrew in the face of condemning reactions.
Instead, Trump chose Pam Bondi, a former Florida attorney general and a member of his defense team during the congressional trial to impeach him in 2020.
She will be assisted in this ministry by three of the president-elect’s personal lawyers: Todd Blanche, Emil Boff and John Sawyer. Their mission is to put an end to what Donald Trump, convicted at the end of last May, considers to be an “exploitation” of justice, so that it becomes a weapon of his revenge, according to what some observers see.
