The delegation of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) met the head of the Egyptian general intelligence service to discuss the course of the implementation of the ceasefire and the exchange of prisoners, while the movement denied accepting a temporary truce in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas said in a statement that “a delegation led by the leader of the Council of Movement leaders, Mohamed Darwish, met in Cairo the head of the Egyptian general intelligence service, Major-General Hassan Rashad, where many important questions were discussed in a positive spirit and responsibility, in particular during the implementation of the ceasefire and the exchange of prisoners stations. “
The press release added that the Hamas delegation underlined the need to respect all the terms of the agreement and immediately go to start secondary negotiations, open up to level passages and reintegrate the rescue equipment to the sector without registration or condition.
The delegation also confirmed the approval of the movement to train the Community support committee of independent national personalities in the administration of Gaza until the completion of the agreement of the Palestinian Chamber and the holding of general elections at all its national, presidential and legislative levels.
Hamas expressed its thanks and assessment for Egyptian efforts during the previous period, in particular in the face of movement plans, its appreciation of the results of the Arabic summit, in particular the Gaza reconstruction plan and the accent on the fixed rights of the Palestinian people.
Truce
In a related context, the head of Hamas, Mahmoud Mardawi, said that “what is broadcast about brokers has received messages that Hamas opens a temporary truce in the Gaza Strip is incorrect”.
Mardawi highlighted the enthusiasm of the total enthusiasm of the granted agreement, with the need to move on to the negotiations of the second step according to the agreed determinants, and that these reports are incorrect and are not linked to reality.
On Saturday evening, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced his intention to send an Israeli delegation to Doha to try to negotiations with Hamas on the exchange of prisoners.
In a maneuver to avoid the second phase of the ceasefire agreement, which stipulates the end of the war against Gaza, the government of Netanyahu – according to observers – is a royalty exchange game with Washington by speaking of the initiatives advanced by the latter despite a mediator and a guarantee of the agreement.
All initiatives – which Washington has not officially underlined – focuses on the extension of the first phase of the agreement to release as many Israeli prisoners as possible without a last stop in the war, in accordance with the desire of Netanyahu to satisfy the extreme right within his government.
In this context, the Israeli broadcasting company has cited informed sources – which have not been named – that regional mediators (Egypt and Qatar) are waiting for the visit of Steve Wittouf, the envoy of American president Donald Trump in the region, which could take place in the coming days.
According to sources, Wittouf will carry an American initiative to release 10 Israeli prisoners in Hamas in exchange for the expansion of the ceasefire for several months, without specifying a specific time.
She added that negotiations will take place between the United States and Hamas directly without the intervention of Israel.
According to Israeli intelligence estimates, 59 Israeli prisoners in Gaza are always estimated that 35 of them have been killed, while 22 others are supposed to be alive, and the fate of two is unknown.
Among these are American citizenship, notably Aidan Alexander, 21, who is alive.
And last Sunday, the first stage of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, which lasted 42 days, ended, while Israel rejected the second stage, which includes the end of the war.
Hamas affirms its commitment to the implementation of the agreement, which entered into force on January 19, 2025, and requires that Israel be forced to all its elements, calling the brokers to start immediately in the negotiations of the second stage, which includes an Israeli withdrawal from the band and a war.
With American support, Israel was committed between October 7, 2023 and January 19, 2025 Genocide in Gaza, which left more than 160,000 Palestinian and injured martyrs – most children and women – and more than 14,000 missing.
