The death toll from Israeli aggression against Lebanon rises and the displacement crisis worsens


The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced Tuesday evening that the death toll from the ongoing Israeli aggression against Lebanon has increased since October 8, 2023, while the population displacement crisis in the country has worsened after that the accommodation centers have reached their capacity.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health indicated that the death toll from the Israeli aggression rose to 2,729 martyrs and 12,772 wounded.

She added that the number of victims among women and children amounts to 706 martyrs and 3,536 injured, and among health personnel, 172 martyrs and 233 injured.

The ministry said in a statement that the Israeli enemy’s raids on Lebanon yesterday Monday left 82 martyrs and 180 wounded, which led to an increase in the number of casualties.

While Israel targeted 80 medical and ambulance centers, 39 hospitals and 244 mechanisms affiliated with the health sector, according to the ministry.

Displacement crisis

For his part, Lebanese Environment Minister Nasser Yassin told Al Jazeera that the Israeli occupation army continues to violate international laws and resolutions, exacerbating the displacement crisis, especially with the arrival of winter.

He added that the country faces major challenges related to displaced people, including providing food to more than 250,000 displaced people in shelters, which numbered 1,100 and reached capacity.

On aid, Yassine said there are major threats to the movement of aid convoys, adding that the government received aid pledges of $800 million at the Paris conference, but that it is necessary to activate them, adding that part of the aid arrives by air from some Arab countries.

He stressed that there must be a ceasefire before talking about agreements or implementing international resolutions, as negotiations are underway under the leadership of Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri, but they are only just beginning.

Since September 23, Israel has extended the scope of the genocide in Gaza to include most parts of Lebanon, including the capital Beirut, through air raids of unprecedented violence and intensity.
