British Heathrow Airport announced today, Friday, that it witnessed a large power failure due to a fire in a sub-support station which provides the airport to the current, and said that it would remain closed until midnight today, Friday, March 21.
A press release published by the airport authorities said On X, in order to preserve the safety of travelers and workers from the airport, Heathro airport will be closed until 11:59 p.m. on Friday March 21, 2025.
The declaration advised passengers not to go to the airport.
A spokesperson for Heathrow airport told Reuters that the fire-fighting teams had managed the fire accident, but that there was still an ambiguity on the date of electric power, adding that airport services should be assigned in the coming days.
For its part, the Euroconrol organization, which manages air traffic control operations throughout Europe, announced on its website that no flight was authorized to arrive at Heathrow airport due to power outages, and that it was planned to transfer the flight trajectory.
According to the “flight radar” site for flights, some conversions have already started at other airports.
