Solar energy projects in Tunisia with a capacity of 500 megawatts environment and climate


Tunisia seeks to strengthen its dependence on renewable energies in electricity production, after the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Renewable Energies signed new agreements, in order to carry out 4 projects with a total capacity of more than 500 megawatts, with investments amounting to around $ 386.3 million, and the four projects should enter into the operation in 2027.

The ministry said that the licenses had been granted to French Kiir International to build two stations with a total capacity of 300 megawatts, and Voltalia to create a 100 megawatt station, in addition to your Norwegian skat and the group of 100 Japanese locks.

Two projects should be concentrated in the governorate of Sidi Bouzid (center) with a capacity of 300 megawatts, a project in the Gafsa (South West) governorate with a capacity of 100 megawatts and the latest project in the province of Gabes (South-East) with a capacity of 100 megawatts.

According to the ministry, it is expected that solar energy electricity production projects enter the operation from 2027 and will allow the production of around 1100 GB / hour / hour, which is 5% of the country’s electricity production.

These projects will also be able to provide around 250,000 tonnes of natural gas, with a value of around $ 125 million per year, in addition to it, which saves the cost of electricity production, which is equivalent to $ 200 million per year.

The ministry had previously published 3 international tenders in order to concentrate 1,700 megawatts of renewable energies, the first of which is solar energy, to implement 8 projects with a total capacity of 800 megawatts on 4 visits (visits).

The second call for wind energy tenders aims to implement 6 projects with a capacity of 600 megawatts on 4 rpm, and the third for solar energy with a total capacity of more than 300 megawatts.

According to the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies, Tunisia – which mainly depends on electricity production from gas – seeks to generate 35% of its electrical needs from renewable sources by 2030.
