UN Warning
Meanwhile, UN-General Secretary Antonio Guterres expressed his “deep concern” on the air strikes that have targeted the city of Port Soudan on Wednesday in recent days.
Guterres warned that these attacks with drones represent a “big climb” in the war that has lasted for more than a year between the Sudanese army and the rapid support forces.
“These strikes” can lead to generalized civilian victims and greater destruction of vital infrastructure “in the coastal city, which is a major gateway to enter humanitarian aid in Sudan.
The concern of the Secretary -General also expressed the expansion of the conflict to an area in which a large number of Sudanese from Khartoum and other regions have been moved, considering that “the absence of the political will of the parties to return to the negotiation table” is what exacerbates the crisis.
The United Nations warns that targeting the city can lead to “aggravating needs and complex rescue operations” in a country where around 25 million people suffer from a serious lack of food security.
The Coordinator of the United Nations Humanitarian and Emergency Coordination, Tom Fletcher, described the strikes as “the axis of our humanitarian operations and a basic entrance gateway to help”.
In the same context, the American senator Chris Van Holin inspired on the “X” platform that the civil war in Sudan killed more than 150,000 people and moved more than 14 million.
Holin explained that the war had left more than half of the population faced with the risk of famine, in the midst of a great reduction in international aid, including the American, which led to the closure of 80% of emergency kitchens.
