Abu Qasra has taken charge of engineering the military capabilities of the Syrian armed opposition in northern Syria since the start of the Syrian revolution in 2011. He led most military operations there and was known by his military name , “Abu Hassan al-Hamaoui. »

He later served as the military commander of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham and was one of the most prominent leaders of the military operations department which succeeded, on December 8, 2024, in overthrowing the regime of Bashar al-Assad.

After the fall of Assad, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, commander-in-chief of the political administration in Syria, announced on December 21, 2024 the appointment of Abu Qasra as Minister of Defense in the Syrian interim government.

Al-Sharaa said the Syrian opposition military factions would be merged into a single institution overseen by the Defense Ministry administration within the new army.
