Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian graduate student at the American University of Colombia, described himself as a political prisoner in his first statements since his arrest against the pretext of his role in the demonstrations supporting the Palestinians.
Reuters says that the administration of the American president Donald Trump seeks to expel Khalil, the permanent resident of the United States, while many human rights organizations have denounced the arrest of Khalil as an attack on freedom of expression and a violation of the legal proceedings due.
Meanwhile, more than 100 Democratic legislators in the House of Representatives questioned the legality of detention in a letter from their face to the Trump administration.
The American lawyers say that Khalil, 30, is subject to expulsion because the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marco Rubio, decided that his presence in the United States could have “serious consequences for foreign policy,” he said.
According to Reuters, the Khalil case represents a test of the courts in the way of drawing the line of separation between the freedom of expression guaranteed for citizens and residents under the first amendment to the American Constitution, and the executive authority, considering that certain demonstrations can undermine foreign policy.

Palestine without
“My name is Mahmoud Khalil, and I am a political prisoner,” said Khalil in a letter published on Tuesday. He added in the letter: “My arrest is a direct result of the practice of my right to freedom of expression, while I defended the (question) of the” free Palestine “and ending the genocide in Gaza, which resumed its full force on Monday evening”, referring to the Israeli regrets of Gaza, that the local authorities declared that they claimed the life of more than 400 palestians.
Khalil lawyers called for his immediate release, knowing that he became a permanent legal resident in the United States last year. And his wife is pregnant in his eighth month.
His detention of March 8 of this march sparked demonstrations in various American cities, including New York on Tuesday when hundreds of people gathered in Times Square, demanding its release.
Hostile racist to the Palestinians
Trump has undertaken to expel pro -Palestinian activists who participated in demonstrations on a university campus on the Israeli war against Gaza after the attack on the Movement of Palestinian Islamic Resistance (Hamas) in October 2023.
Trump said “demonstrators are anti -miss and support Hamas activists”.
On the other hand, the Palestinian defenders, including certain Jewish groups, say that their criticisms have confused an error between criticizing the Israeli attack on Gaza and anti-semitism, their support for Palestinian rights and the support of Hamas activists.
Khalil declared in the letter that his arrest indicates racism hostile to the Palestinians.
At the end of his report, Reuters said that the United States government did not explain how Khalil could harm American foreign policy. And he remembers that Trump accused him, without evidence, of supporting Hamas, while his legal team confirms that he has no connection with the Palestinian movement.
