The family of young Jordanian Maher Dhiyab Al-Jazi, who led the Karama crossing operation between Jordan and the West Bank, set up a house to receive mourners in Al-Husseiniya district in Ma’an governorate, southern Jordan, which they called “a house of joy and congratulations.”
Maher Al-Jazi was martyred by Israeli bullets after killing 3 members of the Israeli security forces at the Allenby border crossing yesterday morning, Sunday, in an operation that was the first of its kind since the start of the Israeli aggression against Gaza on December 7 last October and the escalation of attacks in the occupied West Bank.
Al Jazeera’s camera followed the continuous arrival of hundreds of people from various governorates of Jordan who went to the funeral parlor, which the family said they had set up for congratulations and joy, in light of the state of pride and joy expressed by the family members over the operation carried out by Maher Al-Jazi.
There was also a state of expectation and anticipation to determine the steps taken to receive the body of Maher Al-Jazi, with the family confirming to Al-Jazeera that Jordanian authorities were in contact with Israel to receive the body.
Since the early hours of yesterday Sunday night, the family has set up a funeral home in the settlements of the Jazi tribe, in the Al-Husseiniya district of Ma’an governorate, in southern Jordan, where the influx of Jordanians began from that time and continues until Monday evening.
According to Al Jazeera’s correspondent, these high numbers have prompted the construction of more tents and hair salons, while the family awaits the authorities’ steps to recover their son’s body for his funeral and burial in his hometown of Al-Husseiniyah.
Joy and rejoicing
Al-Jazi comes from the Al-Huwaitat tribe, one of the largest tribes in Jordan. It played a major role in the establishment of the kingdom. It is known for its loyalty to the Jordanian state and many of its sons join the army corps of the Jordanian army, in addition to the various state security services.
Al Jazeera’s correspondent observed the state of joy and jubilation that was expressed through the speech of Maher’s father, his siblings and several of his relatives. His father confirmed that the blood of his son Maher is not more precious than that of the children, women and elders of the Gaza Strip, while his brother said: “Maher is Jordan’s gift to Palestine and Gaza.”
Maher’s brother said he carried an anger, which continued throughout the months of the war, over the crimes committed by Israel against the Palestinian people, particularly against the population of the Gaza Strip.
Maher Al-Jazi was born on April 28, 1985 in the village of Adharh in Ma’an Governorate. He belongs to the Jordanian Al-Huwaitat clan. He was married and had 5 children. He resides in the Al-Husseiniyah area. in Ma’an Governorate.
According to the militants’ accounts, Maher comes from the Al-Jazi family, which includes Sheikh Haroun Al-Jazi Al-Huwaiti, commander of the Battle of Al-Qastal in Jerusalem in 1948, and his family also includes Major General Mashhour Haditha Al-Jazi, one of the leaders of the Battle of Al-Karamah in 1968.
