The PKK announced today, on Saturday, the ceasefire with Türkiye two days after the supporters of its founder Abdullah Ocalan invited his supporters to drop the weapons and dissolve the party.
The party said he would respect the invitation of his imprisoned leader to reach peace and announce the cease-fire from today, noting that he hoped that Ankara would release Ocalan so that he could direct the disarmament process.
The party prohibited in Türkiye added – in a press release – that it is necessary to develop political and democratic conditions for the success of the process.
The party’s external relations official in the Qandil region within Iraqi territory, Hafal Sarkout, told the island that the party was Egypt, on its leader Abdullah Ocalan among its ranks to direct the peace process, including party fighters, as he described, and to engage in a real political process with Türkiye, as he described.
On Thursday, the imprisoned Kurdish chief Abdullah Ocalan urged his party to abandon arms and prohibit his activity, in the context of efforts to make peace with Türkiye and put an end to a 4 -year conflict and made tens of thousands of deaths.
“Hold your meeting and make a decision, all groups should abandon their weapons and that the Kurdistan workers’ party will replace.”
According to Turkish data, the Labor Party killed around 40,000 people (between civilians and soldiers) during its separatist activities which have been taking place since the 1980s.
While peace efforts were frozen for almost a decade, the camp of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan launched an initiative advanced by its main national ally, sleeps Bhatchley last October in Ocalan, which is sentenced to perpetuity imprisonment. Hachli then called Ocalan to reject violence and dissolve his party for the early release of it.
Ocalan launched two previous invitations to the armistice, at the beginning of this century, then in 2013, but they failed, giving way to renewed fights.
