Israel Heavy Bombs Hama, Tweeters Question Syrian Army’s Silence

Social media platforms have reacted strongly to Israeli airstrikes that targeted several military sites in central Syria, including around the town of Masyaf, west of Hama, according to the official SANA news agency.

Media outlets loyal to the Syrian regime reported that the raids took place in two waves, totaling around 15 raids, and described them as the most violent in years.

In a report, Reuters reported that one of the targeted sites was a military research center for the production of chemical weapons, believed to house Iranian military experts.

Video clips have been circulated on social media showing the first moments of the raids and the losses they caused. According to official sources, the toll of these raids stands at 16 dead and 36 injured, including 6 in critical condition.

The activists’ comments ranged from those who stressed the recurrence of Israeli strikes and their routine nature, to others who questioned the reasons for the Syrian army’s inability to respond to them, which was highlighted in the 9-9-2024 episode of the “Shabakat” program.

According to tweeter Walid Ali, the news of the bombing of Syria is no longer an event, and he tweeted: “The news of the bombing of Syria has become a very ordinary news and totally ineffective in the context of events, unlike what it was in the past.”

Syrian crisis

For his part, activist Anas expressed his regret over the continuation of the Syrian crisis and wrote: “What makes me sad is that until now the Syrian crisis has not been resolved, and then Israel has gotten used to bombing Syria under the pretext of Iran.”

As for tweeter Faisal, he asked about the reasons for the Syrian army’s failure to respond to Israeli attacks: “The question here is why the Syrian army is not responding to Israeli attacks. They are the ones who bombed theirs? People equipped with ballistic missiles and various types of weapons.

Referring to the nature of the targeted site, activist Darwish commented without regret: “This site produced certain criminal tools, including the manufacture of explosive barrels and short-range ballistic missiles.”

At the official level, the Syrian Foreign Ministry condemned the bombing and issued a statement saying: “We warn against the continued international silence regarding Israel’s disregard for all international laws and conventions and its violations of international law, and we call on all countries in the world to condemn this Israeli aggression and to stand in solidarity with us in seeking to end systematic Israeli attacks and crimes.”
