The Iranian embassy in Lebanon has denied what it called “circulating rumors” regarding the visual and health condition of Iranian ambassador Mojtaba Amani, who was injured yesterday, Tuesday, in the explosion of the elements’ radio communication equipment. The embassy said – in a message on the X platform – that “the ambassador’s treatment is going well and that the rumors circulating” about his health are unfounded.

It is worth noting that a number of Iranian activists and media figures mentioned in social media posts that the Iranian ambassador’s injury was serious in the eye area and that he had lost his sight as a result of the bombings.

The Iranian embassy in Beirut had previously reported that the Iranian ambassador to Lebanon had suffered superficial injuries as a result of the bombing and was in good health.

Iran’s Fars news agency reported that the ambassador had been transferred to hospital.

The New York Times also reported that two of the ambassador’s bodyguards were injured in the blast, while the Financial Times quoted an Iranian official as confirming that the ambassador was in good condition and that no members of his diplomatic team were injured in the blast.

It is worth noting that 9 people, including a girl, were killed yesterday and about 2,750 were injured, mostly Hezbollah members, in southern Lebanon and the southern suburbs of Beirut, after the explosion of the radio communication devices (pagers) they were using.

A Lebanese security source told Al Jazeera that the bombed communications devices had been imported five months ago.

The American website Al-Monitor also revealed, from senior regional intelligence sources, that Israel was responsible for the attack on the pagers in Lebanon and that it had accelerated the implementation of the operation after collecting intelligence information indicating that two Hezbollah members had discovered the penetration of the devices.
