US Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris said the time has come to reach a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip and that President Joe Biden’s administration is working around the clock to reach that agreement.
At a campaign rally in the eastern state of Pennsylvania, a number of activists opposed to the war on Gaza and demanding an end to US support for Israel boycotted a speech by Harris, who responded by saying she respected voices opposed to the war.
She believes that the time has come to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and release the detainees. She confirmed that the US administration is working tirelessly to reach a ceasefire agreement.
Observers say the reluctance of Americans who support Palestine, including Muslims and Arabs, to support Harris could hurt her chances in the next election, even though that group typically votes Democratic and is unlikely to vote for Republican candidate Donald Trump.
Harris had previously defended “Israel’s right to defend itself,” with the need for Palestinians to “determine their own destiny,” but she distanced herself from demands raised by members of the Democratic Party demanding a suspension of US military aid to Israel.
Israel, with American support, has been waging a war against Gaza since October 7, which has left more than 41,000 martyrs and tens of thousands injured, in addition to widespread destruction and an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.
