The Syrian Foreign Ministry received telephone calls from four Arab ministers, in which they stressed their support for the new government and their desire to strengthen bilateral relations with Damascus, more than two weeks after the fall of the regime of deposed President Bashar al-Assad.

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani received a phone call from Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya.

The Kuwaiti minister congratulated the Syrian people on their victory after a struggle that lasted about 14 years, emphasizing his country’s support for the measures taken by the new government in Damascus.

Al-Yahya expressed Kuwait’s willingness to cooperate in a way that serves the interests of both countries and contributes to the stability of Syria.

For his part, Minister Al-Shaibani appreciated Kuwait’s positions on the Syrian revolution and highlighted the strong ties that unite the two countries.

Al-Shaibani also received a phone call from the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in Lebanon, Abdallah Bou Habib, in which he assured him that the Lebanese government stood by the new Syrian government and congratulated the Syrian people for their victory.

Furthermore, Minister Al-Shaibani highlighted the depth of fraternal relations and common history between the Syrian and Lebanese people as well as the need to preserve them in a way that contributes to the interests of both countries. The two ministers agreed to intensify efforts to strengthen the stability of the region and maintain its security.

Contacts and visits

In the same context, the Syrian minister received a telephone call from his Bahraini counterpart, Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al-Zayani.

Al-Zayani congratulated the Syrian people on their great victory, emphasizing the Kingdom of Bahrain’s support for the will of the Syrian people and welcoming the steps taken by the new Syrian leaders.

During the call, ways to develop bilateral cooperation and joint coordination to serve the interests of the two brotherly countries and peoples were discussed.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry said that Libyan Minister of State for Communication and Political Affairs Walid Al-Lafi conveyed in a telephone call to the Syrian Foreign Minister Libya’s support for the people Syrian and the new government.

Al-Lafi highlighted the desire of the Libyan National Unity Government to strengthen bilateral relations with Syria through the exchange of delegations between the two countries with the aim of strengthening cooperation in various fields.

This is part of a series of contacts and visits by senior officials from Western, regional and Arab countries with the new Syrian administration and its leader Ahmed Al-Sharaa, after the overthrow of the Assad regime.

In the context of international opening in Syria, Turkey and Qatar reopened their diplomatic missions in Damascus, and other countries resumed the work of their diplomatic missions, a step that reflects the major changes in relations with Syria after the recent political change.

It should be noted that on December 8, Syrian factions took control of the capital, Damascus, after taking control of other cities, coinciding with the withdrawal of regime forces from public institutions and streets, thus ending 61 years of rule by the Baath Party and 53 years of rule by the Assad family.
