British newspaper: West Bank citizens accuse PA security of repression in service of Israel

The British newspaper “I News” said, in a report by writer Kieron Monks published yesterday Monday, that citizens of the occupied West Bank are subject to continuous attacks by Palestinian security forces, particularly in the besieged camp. from Jenin.

While the Palestinian Authority claims to target “outlaws” to restore order, residents of the Jenin camp accuse the Authority of brutal repression and working to serve Israel’s interests.

The newspaper cited a United Nations report that said at least 14 Palestinians were killed in operations carried out by PA security, including 3 children, a journalist and 6 security personnel themselves.

According to the same report, more than 2,000 families have been displaced from the camp since operations began, while remaining residents suffer miserable conditions with water and electricity supplies cut off.

Palestinian representative Ahmed Tubasi told the newspaper: “Basic services have again been disrupted due to Palestinian Authority operations, with water and electricity slightly cut off over the past month. »

He added: “The camp is under siege and people are being killed just walking in the street. Tubasi estimated that “the Palestinian soldiers are crazier and stupider than the Israelis,” because, according to him, “they set fires.” towards houses and their snipers are shooting all the time, and every time we try to repair the electricity, they shoot “intentionally setting fire to the power sources”.

Citizen Raed Khatib described the situation as “catastrophic”, according to his comments quoted by the newspaper. He said: “Some of our neighbors were shot. There are houses that have been burned and the situation is getting worse because there is no safe place to hide with your family”, and on top of that there is “a complete siege, which poses many problems . »

Khatib also said that this operation ultimately serves the Israeli occupation, saying its objective is “to disarm the resistance, and the only beneficiary is the occupation.”

According to the English newspaper, the Palestinian Authority responded to criticism by saying it was working to prevent armed groups from launching attacks on Israeli targets that would lead to more destructive Israeli operations in the West Bank.

It quotes the secretary of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah) in Jenin governorate, Mahmoud Hawasheen, as saying: “The operations aim to create a state of calm and prevent paramilitary actions against Israeli army forces. in order to avoid destruction similar to that occurring in 2017. Gaza. »

Incursions and clashes

Regarding the Israeli occupation, sources told Al Jazeera that Israeli special forces stormed the town of Qabatiya, south of Jenin, in the northern West Bank.

Palestinian media also reported the outbreak of armed clashes between the resistance and the occupation forces at the Al-Jalama checkpoint, north of the city of Jenin.

The occupying forces also stormed the surroundings of the Balata camp, east of Nablus, in the West Bank.

This comes as the occupying army continues its escalation against Palestinians in the West Bank, alongside its devastating war in the Gaza Strip, which continues for the 16th consecutive month.

Palestinian agencies have documented the deaths of more than 840 people in the West Bank and the injuries of more than 6,700 since October 2023.
