Today, on Saturday, the American Iranian talks will be launched in Oman’s sultanate on the Iranian nuclear program, in the midst of the American threat in military action in the event of non-compliance with a new agreement.
These talks will be the highest level in this regard, because US President Donald Trump withdrew from the nuclear agreement with Iran in 2018 during his first mandate.
Trump has renewed his opposition to Iran’s possession of a nuclear weapon. In statements to journalists from the presidential plane, he described the expected meetings between the Iranians and the Americans of the Sultanate of Oman today as a mission. He said he hoped Iran would be prosperous and great, but they cannot have a nuclear weapon.
The official Iranian media reported that talks will take place under the leadership of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abbas Araqji and the American envoy Steve Witkeov, by the Minister of Omanai Foreign Affairs Badr Al –busaidi.
In the context, the Axios website has cited an enlightened source saying that the high official of the National Security Council Eric Trager and nuclear experts from the US Foreign Ministry will join Lykov to Oman.
Axius also cited a source saying that Witkeov would repeat the content of Trump’s messages that he prefers a diplomatic solution, while ensuring that Iran does not have nuclear weapons.
The source told Exeios that the first round of the talks will start indirectly, noting that if the opening session is positive, it is likely to turn into direct talks.
Axius also quoted an American official that Trump is ready to make concessions to reach an agreement with the Iranians, but the main question is: “Do Iranians have a political will to lead a serious discussion so that we do not resort to another alternative?”, He said.
US officials told Aksius that the United States is not sure of what Iranians could expect.
Witkev said Loll Street Journal that the Red Line that the Trump administration was on Iran should prevent it from being able to produce a nuclear weapon.
Wittouf added that Washington’s request from Tehran is to dismantle its nuclear program and that it can be found in different ways on the sidelines of negotiations to reach a regulation between the two countries.
He said that if Iran refuses to dismantle its nuclear program, the question will be presented to President Trump to determine how to move forward.
Wittakouf stressed that the first meeting revolves around confidence and linked to the explanation of the reason for the importance of reaching an agreement for the United States and not on the precise conditions of the agreement.
He also declared in his remarks for Loll Street Journal that any agreement with Iran would require strict investigation measures to ensure that it does not work to develop a nuclear bomb.
Iranian position
For his part, the Vice Minister of Iranian Foreign Affairs Majeed Takht Rwanji declared that Tehran believed in dialogue in the light of mutual respect and rejects domination and tries to impose the will. He added that dialogue and cooperation are the best approach to solving the problems of the region.
The Iranian official said that it was possible to conclude an agreement if Washington had abandoned threats.
Iran confirmed that it gave the next talks with the United States to Oman a “real opportunity” and takes care of him “seriously and constructively”.
The Iranian Political Affairs Advisor Ali Shamkhani said that Foreign Minister Abbas Araqji has full -fledged powers in indirect negotiations with Washington in the Sultanate of Oman.
Shamkhani added that Tehran is looking for a real and equitable agreement, noting that there are important and implemented proposals, and that the negotiations will be clear and easy if Washington enters the negotiations with sincerity and the will.
