Axios said that Iran is studying a proposal for a temporary nuclear agreement before continuing negotiations on a full agreement, during its interviews with the United States scheduled for the Sultanate of Oman next Saturday.
Axius cited a European diplomat and a familiar source with the question that Iranians believe that reaching a complex nuclear agreement raised in the two months – as the White House wants – is unrealistic, and they want to have more time to avoid climbing.
Axius said that the temporary agreement may include the extension of the rapid return mechanism which was part of the 2015 nuclear agreement, and this mechanism, which activates the sanctions of the United Nations Security Council on Iran, will end in the event of violation of the agreement in October.
The temporary agreement may also include an Iranian request to suspend the “maximum pressure” policy on the Iranian economy pursued by Washington.
President Donald Trump identified two months of negotiations with Iran on a new nuclear agreement and at the same time ordered the strengthening of American military forces in the region as another option if diplomacy fails.
Axius said that if there is no agreement, Trump could order an American military strike against Iranian nuclear installations or support an Israeli strike.
The envoy of the White House, Steve Witkev, is expected to speak with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakji on Saturday in Oman, while the United States said that the talks will be direct, the Iranians insist that the negotiations will be done through Omanai brokers.
