The efforts of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to reject the president of (Shin Bet), Ronin Bar, still increases controversy, in the midst of accusations to seek to improve his control of security institutions, in a movement described by analysts as precipitating the dismantling of alleged Israeli democracy.
Israel witnesses a clear division on the history of the decision, while the opposition parties submitted a petition to the Supreme Court to stop the dismissal, considering that it had come with personal motivations, in particular in the light of Shin Bet investigations with the employees of the Netanyahu office on alleged corruption files, while Netanyahu “Insecurity” was at the origin of the end of the end of the bar.
According to Israeli affairs expert Muhannad Mustafa, this step is an unusual legal precedent in the history of Israel, because it is the first time that the president of “Bet Shin” has been rejected instead of his voluntary resignation.
In his speech on the “Path of Events” program, Mustafa considered that the dismissal presents itself in Netanyahu’s efforts to reshape state agencies and impose personal loyalty in the security system.
Mustafa added that Bar had made daring investigations on the attack on October 7, 2023, which concluded that the Israeli government was responsible for the failure of security, which has angry Netanyahu, who seeks to “silence any voice that reveals its involvement in the failure of the security system”.
This proposal believes itself with what the military correspondent of the Israeli broadcasting authority, Eyal Alamia, explained that the “Shin Bet” is not only a security device concerning the fight against Palestinian operations, but rather represents one of the pillars of the security and intelligence system in Israel.
Alamia stressed that Bar’s ability to achieve sensitive information made him an obstacle to Netanyahu’s agenda, who seeks to get rid of all those who could constitute a threat to his political survival, he said.
An alleged democracy
For his part, the secretary -general of the Palestinian national initiative, Mustafa Al -Barghouthi, considered that the current conflict between Netanyahu and his opponents in security and judicial institutions reveals “the acceleration of the alleged collapse of Israeli democracy”.
In this context, Al -Barghouti confirms that the occupying state was not a democracy in the first place, because it “practiced racial discrimination against the Palestinians since its foundation, but today it turns into a fascist regime which moves”.
He stressed that the settlement of internal accounts in Israel reflects a double failure of the Government of Netanyahu, which is his inability to achieve the objectives of the war against Gaza, and his inability to restore Israeli prisoners by force.
He added that Israeli society began to achieve the extent of the disaster to which Netanyahu led them, but the structure of the political system allows him to survive despite the drop in popularity.
In this context, Muhannad Mustafa notes that the current crisis is only an extension of the attempt at the judicial coup led by Netanyahu in 2023, where he seeks to reshape the state institutions to serve his personal interests, stressing that the dismissal of bar is only a new station in the path of the dismantling of Israel.
Dark dictatorship
Mustafa is quoted by Israeli press reports which warned that Israel was at the threshold of a “dark dictatorship of the Middle East”, according to the description of certain Israeli commentators, in the light of the insistence of Netanyahu to tighten its grip on judicial and security institutions.
At the judicial level, the dismissal faces a legal dilemma, while the government’s judicial adviser warned that Netanyahu could be involved in contradictory interests, since the “Bet Shin” was investigating affairs related to his office.
She considered that the dismissal of a bar at this time could be an attempt to conceal sensitive surveys, which could lead the Supreme Court to intervene.
As for militarily, he warned that the continuation of the crisis could lead to a cracking in the army and to the security services, in particular in the light of growing anger among reserve leaders, who previously threatened to cease military service to protest against government policies.
On the other hand, Al -Barghouti believes that Netanyahu can resort to the climbing of war against Gaza as a means of distracting the attention of its internal crises, warning that “the more internal pressures”, the more the frequency of the Israeli aggression against the Palestinians. “”
He added that the Israeli government seeks to export its crisis abroad by expanding the circle of bombing and assassinations in the West Bank, Lebanon and Syria.
