Algeria announced that 12 French diplomats were considered to be “undesirable” and asked to leave the country within 48 hours and attacked the French Minister of the Interior Bruno Ritayo and swore “a firm and appropriate response” to any duration of its sovereignty.
The Algerian Foreign Ministry declared on Monday in a strongly written statement, according to which Algeria “had decided on a sovereign capacity to consider 12 employees working in the French Embassy and its consular representations in Algeria and belonging to the sons under the tutelage of the French Interior Ministry, as undesirable persons”, “with their request to leave the country within 48 hours.
She stressed that the decision came in response to what she described as an “advertising and advertising detention” carried out by the interests of the French Interior Ministry, on April 8, against an Algerian consular employee accredited in France, considering that this behavior constitutes a “blatant violation of customs and diplomatic albums”.
She stressed that the consular employee, who was arrested, appreciated “immunities and diplomatic privileges”, but the French authorities “treated him in a shameful manner as a thief”.
The press release stressed that the incident came at a time when Algerian relations -fellows witnessed a truce, after a telephone conversation between the leaders of the two countries and the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs in Algeria.
He declared that this “abstract behavior on his sovereignty is only the result of the negative and shameful position of the French Minister of the Interior towards Algeria”.
The declaration attacked the French Minister of the Interior, claiming that he “speaks fluent in purely personal purposes and that it lacked by the lowest political meaning”, fully blaming him for “Direction that relations between Algeria and France will take”.
The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that “any other behavior that affects its sovereignty by the French Minister of the Interior will respond to a firm and appropriate response, based on the principle of reciprocity”.
Crisis parades
Algeria convened the French ambassador on Saturday with Stephen Romati and informed him of his strong demonstration, after one of his consular employees was arrested and put into temporary imprisonment, within the framework of a judicial investigation on the suspicion of his involvement in the removal of Algerian exhibitions.
These developments represent a setback after a breakthrough in relations between the two countries. On April 6, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean Nawil Baro, visited Algeria and announced the resumption of all cooperation mechanisms between the two countries.
Barrow’s visit was the first to be made by a French official in Algeria after a break that lasted more than 8 months, due to a crisis described as the most dangerous between the two countries.
The crisis began at the end of July, with the announcement of French president Emmanuel Macron to support the initiative of autonomy under the Moroccan sovereignty of Western Sahara. Algeria has taken the initiative to withdraw its Paris ambassador. The situation was then aggravated, in particular due to the question of immigration and arrest of the Algerian-French writer Boualam Sankal in Algeria.
