Lebanese Health Minister Firas Al-Abyad presented the latest results of Israeli aggression against his country’s medical facilities and personnel, accusing Israel of seeking to create a humanitarian crisis in order to obtain concessions policies.
Al-Abyad revealed – in an interview with Al Jazeera – that the Israeli aggression caused the shutdown of 8 hospitals, in addition to “172 martyrs of medical staff”.
The Lebanese minister accused “the Israeli enemy of seeking to target civilians to create a humanitarian crisis that would lead to political concessions”, expressing his hope that Israeli aggression would not expand, leading to increased displacement.
He said: “Israel targets ambulances and crews in southern Lebanon under the watchful eye of United Nations forces,” and it also benefits from military support in addition to political cover.
In this context, Al Jazeera correspondent reported on Thursday, earlier in the day, that Israeli raids targeted ambulances and civil protection vehicles in the southern Lebanese city of Tyre.
The Lebanese minister expressed his sadness at the failure of the international community, emphasizing – at the same time – that Lebanon was receiving Arab aid.
On the political level, the Lebanese minister said his country’s position is clear in declaring its readiness to implement UN Resolution 1701, adding that “there is a responsibility of the other party.”
In August 2006, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 1701 calling for an end to the Second Lebanon War which broke out in July 2006, the withdrawal of Hezbollah fighters beyond the Litani River and the authorization of the deployment of Lebanese army forces in the south.
There was no suggestion that Lebanon would receive the results of the talks from US envoys to Israel, according to the Lebanese minister.
US envoys Amos Hochstein and Brett McGurk spoke in Tel Aviv with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about the chances of reaching a ceasefire agreement, according to Axios.
Since September 23, Israel has expanded its war against Hezbollah to most areas of Lebanon, including the capital Beirut, through air raids of unprecedented violence and intensity, and has also launched an incursion land in southern Lebanon.
The aggression against Lebanon left a total of 2,867 dead and 13,047 injured, including a large number of children and women, in addition to approximately 1.4 million displaced people.
