Israeli website: a tense meeting between Minister Dermer and a new Egyptian official

The “Times of Israel” website cited an Israeli official and an enlightened source that the Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs, Ron Dermer, held a “tense meeting” with a senior Egyptian official in Jerusalem last month, during which they discussed the transfer of residents of Gaza to Sinai.

According to what was reported by the site, the Egyptian official sought to “transfer his country’s firm position” to this issue.

The Egyptian official expressed the deep concern of Cairo in the face of the calls of Israeli politicians to push the Palestinians to leave Gaza and stressed that his country sees such an attempt at “existential threat”.

For his part, Dermer replied that the Egyptian people “are not opposed to the reception of the residents of Gaza as much as the Egyptian government is opposed”.

The site said that the Israeli minister’s response had raised the concern of Egyptian officials, as well as their categorical rejection of the latter, which encouraged them to seek to organize a meeting with some of the senior Egyptian officials in Cairo, to clarify the position of Egypt strongly rejecting the resettlement of Sinai Palestinians.

The site indicated that Egypt hoped to hold the meeting at the beginning of the month, but no deadline has yet been set.
