United Nations concern about security events on the new Syrian coast

The United Nations Secretary, General Antonio Guterres, expressed his concern about security tensions today in the Syrian coast regions, while his private envoy in Syria, other than Pederson, said that “there is an immediate need to control himself from all sides”.

At a press conference in New York, UN spokesperson Stefan Dujarric said that the secretary-general “firmly condemns any violence in Syria, calling on the parties to protect civilians and arrest hostilities.”

Dujarric added that Guterres is concerned about what he called the danger of degenerating tensions in Syria, “at a time when peaceful political reconciliation and a transition should be at the top of 14 years after the conflict”.

Over a period of two days, the Syrian coast region witnessed security tension after targeting members of the remains of security patrols of the Old Regime, which resulted in death and injuries among the security forces.

“Syrians deserve lasting peace, prosperity and justice,” said Dujarik, “said the Anatolia agency in the United Nations.

For his part, the United Nations envoy, and not Pederson, expressed his anxiety about the reports on clashes in coastal areas and civilian victims.

Pederson added that there was an immediate need to control the soul of all parties and to guarantee respect for civilians in accordance with international law, claiming that “all parties must refrain from actions that can lead to the destabilization of Syria and undermine the political transition”.

After the reversal of the Assad regime on December 8, 2024, the new Syrian authorities launched an initiative to settle the conditions of the former members of the regime, the army and the security services, “provided that their weapons are delivered, and their hands are not stained with blood.”

Thousands of people responded to this initiative, while certain armed groups rejected him from the remains of the regime, especially on the Syrian coast, where the superior officers of President ousted Bashar al -Assad were stationed.

Over time, these groups have chosen to flee to mountain areas and have started stirring security tensions and launching separate attacks on government forces in recent weeks.

In an unprecedented escalation, the remains of the old regime led a coordinated attack on Thursday, the largest of its kind since the fall of the Assad regime, targeting patrols and security points in the Syrian coastal area, which resulted in death and injuries among the security forces.

In response, government forces continue to comb and follow in order to eliminate all the remaining armed pockets, in the middle of the insurance that the situation is heading towards complete stability.

And major military and security reinforcements from Idlib, Homs, Aleppo and other regions of Syria arrived this morning in the cities of Latakie, Add and Jableh with the Syrian NAR, to support the forces deployed in the region against the remains of the regime.

The authorities have also issued warnings to all those who refuse to submit to the law and to hand over arms, stressing that any attempted elevation of chaos will be faced with a decisive response which is not negligent.
