During his first mandate, between 2017 and 2021, Trump withdrew the members of his country from the United Nations Human Rights Council after the criticism of the Republican legislators for the work of the Council, claiming “a bias against Israel “.

However, the United States resumed its participation in the activities of the Council in October 2021 during the reign of Joe Biden, to regain its membership after an absence of 3 years.

After signing the council withdrawal decree on Tuesday, Trump said: “I always thought that the United Nations had enormous potential, but that does not increase the level of these capacities at the moment.”

The White House documents published by the American website “Politico” claim that “the United Nations Human Rights Council has shown a continuous bias against Israel, by concentrating them unjustly and not proportional to its decisions and procedures “.

The documents indicated that “in 2018, the year when Trump retired from the Council during his first mandate, the organization made decisions condemning Israel more than what condemned Syria, Iran and the North Korea together “.

The United States is the largest donor in UNRWA, with between $ 300 and $ 400 million a year. However, the Biden administration suspended its funding in January 2024, after Israel affirmed the participation of proxy employees during the attack on October 7, 2023.

Later, the US Congress officially suspended the United States contributions to UNRWA until March 2025 at least, despite the United Nations, the allegations promoted Israel against the agency and its assertion of its neutrality.

On October 28, 2024, the Israeli Knesset approved two laws that prevent UNRWA from practicing all activities in Israel, as well as withdraw the privileges and installations provided to it and to prevent any official contact with it.

On January 30, the ban on UNRWA’s work in Israel came into force.

UNRWA provides assistance and health and education services to millions of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and West Bank, including Jerusalem-East, in addition to Palestinian refugees in Syria, Lebanon and Jordan .
