Two analysts: Talk of an imminent cessation of fighting in Lebanon is unrealistic and a repeat of the Gaza scenario

Two political analysts said that leaks from the American and Israeli media about the imminent conclusion of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah are nothing more than an attempt to convince Israelis that it It is Lebanon that wants war, and not Israel, as has been the case for a year in the Gaza Strip.

Lebanese political analyst Tawfiq Shoman said Prime Minister Najib Mikati’s comments on the proximity of an agreement were surprising and overly optimistic, stressing that all data confirms that the ceasefire “is still far away.”

Shoman confirmed that he communicated with many political authorities in Beirut and found that everyone agreed that the horizon was still blocked and that “no one knows the foundations on which Mikati built his speech.”

Schuman added: “US envoy Amos Hochstein’s visit to the region could reveal a new development regarding the US proposal that Western and Israeli media are talking about, but currently available data does not indicate any progress.”

Secret proposal

The Lebanese analyst also stressed that the proposal presented by Hockstein during his recent visit to Beirut “remained secret between him, Mikati and the Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri, and nothing was known about it”, stressing that “no one talk about this proposal. »

He said the atmosphere in Beirut is “not encouraging and everyone is waiting for real data that will open a window for a political solution,” stressing that “there is a consensus in Lebanon between the resistance and the parties political parties to adhere to the resolution. 1701 without any amendment, while activating the role of the Lebanese army in certain southern areas in coordination with United Nations forces.

Shoman said there is an agreement in Lebanon that a ceasefire is the basis of any agreement, “while not accepting any security coordination regarding the south, even with the United States, Germany and Great Britain.

He concluded that all these leaks from the American and Israeli media “are nothing more than an attempt to confirm that there will be no ceasefire unless a development occurs in outside of calculations and reason.

Document that cannot be accepted

Israeli affairs expert Mahmoud Yazbak agreed with the previous conversation, pointing out that the Israeli press has been talking since yesterday, Wednesday, about a proposal that Hockstein will present, noting that he there are “leaks from a source talking about a document that contains things that Hezbollah or the Lebanese government as a state cannot accept “Because it means officially occupying the south with the approval of Lebanon” .

Yazbek said Israeli media “promote a narrative that Lebanon was defeated and accepted Israel’s right to enter by air and land whenever it senses a threat to its security,” adding: “ It is a speech that one can only believe if a strong surprise arises. caliber occurs. “

He concluded by saying that everything leaked to the Israeli press “aims to convince the Israelis that Israel has won and that it is imposing its conditions on Lebanon in agreement with the United States, and it is also an attempt to hold Lebanon responsible for failing to reach an agreement, as is the case in the Gaza Strip.

Reuters reported that the United States is working to reach an agreement between Israel and Hezbollah that would begin with a cessation of fighting for a period of 60 days, following the implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701. .
